A Friend Of Mine's debut eponym album showcases their unique blend of glitch, ambient and lo-fi elements in a truly captivating way. From the opening track, the listener is transported into a world of fragmented beats and dreamy soundscapes, with each sound carefully crafted to create a cohesive and atmospheric experience.
Electronic and organic sounds and textures bring depth and character to the album, keeping the listener engaged and curious throughout. Haunting melodies and polyrhythmic beats also bring a personal touch, making the music feel introspective and reflective.
Overall, A Friend Of Mine's debut album is a must-listen for fans of experimental music. It's a unique and imaginative work that sets the bar high for future releases.

“eponym” by “A Friend Of Mine” is an engulfing experience that blends the best of ambient/drone, experimental and electronic rhythms into a diverse and truly unique soundscape. The album offers a wide range of styles and emotions to experience, ranging from chaotic and glitchy to more harmonic and polished. I love music that takes me on a journey, but this album went beyond that. It brought me to hear things in a profound way. eponym challenged me to forge a meaning between the complex emotion, and in the end, it was a beautifully heavy result.
Opening with the song “N10000”, the listener enters a misty, nature-filled environment full of crispy percussion and anticipatory build-up. It then dramatically spirals into a tense scene, probably the tensest of the whole album, but it sets the stage nicely for the story we are about to experience. The tracks that follow, such as “Unshamed,” are a bit less chaotic, but still carry the same intense storytelling essence pushed by the electronic/experimental approach. Yet, when “00002” comes on, we are delighted with a harmonic, light-hearted, guitar-led instrumental with soft vocal stabs and other uplifting tones. Tracks such as “Panyob” balance the two extremes well. But overall, this album has something for everyone, and not once did I feel the same message communicated twice. Each song is masterfully distinct and made with care.
“RANI” is probably my favorite track on the album. A Friend Of Mine does a fantastic job with building anticipation in their music and creating heavy textures and sounds that feel real. The melodies and rhythms played in this song struck a delicate balance of light & dark, clean and dirty, something that only few can pull off so well. This song (RANI) is also a great median point for the album, representing the many emotions and messages being told all in one.
Eponym is for music enthusiasts, sonic travelers, who like being challenged and creating internal worlds to the sounds they hear. The project is a beautiful mixture of dark and light, with a notable example in the striking change in emotion in “The Boil” around 1:31, where the song suddenly goes from despair to a charming scene of hope and love. A Friend Of Mine understands how to craft an unforgettable dynamic in their message, and it made me a fan. "
